Dark Shadows

Like a willow-the-wisp the shape had eluded him for almost an hour now. Every time he thought he had grasped or cornered it he held nothing but the shadows of the predawn. Yet still it taunted him. Sending a seemingly endless stream of thoughts to him.

He who kills his friends can't catch the beast inside.

"I didn't kill anyone!" he screamed into the darkness. "I'm no killer!"

A soldier not a killer?

"Where are you?" he called "I'll show you"

It had been almost twenty four hours since his escape from the soul leach. Was it possible he was suffering some form of delusion? A form of madness?

You're not mad, your evil. Pure evil. That is what a leach is attracted by. They suck out the purity until only the evil remains.

"No".

Evil

"I escaped in time though."

Did you?

"I couldn't have been infected. I escaped, I'm still good, still worthy..." he sighed "I'm still a nice guy"

Are you sure

"Come out and show your self" He turned searching for the source. the trees, all about him, swayed steadily in the wind. "we'll see who's right!"

Giving in so easily?

"NO!"

Giving in?

"No."

Giving in!

"no". He pressed his hands to his face "no, no never" he sobbed.

The wind ripped through the trees tearing leaves from branches like a dark portend of what was to come. the branches shook in rhythm with the shoulders of the man that for now at least had no name. Yet he would remember himself only as le bete, the beast.
